What a unicorn plush is actually like
Unicorns behave differently from real animals: nobody is matching a reference, so decoration is the product. Metallic horns, rainbow manes, glitter hooves and iridescent fabrics are features here rather than tackiness.
That does make quality variable. The horn and mane are where cheap unicorns fail — loose glued glitter and a mane that sheds after one wash are the two most common complaints.
Sizes you will actually find
Unicorn plush are commonly produced up to 30–55 in.

6–10 in
15–25 cm
Bag-clip and palm sizes. Best for travel, party favours and toddlers who lose things.
Medium / classic
10–16 in
25–40 cm
The default plush size and the one most brands photograph. Fits under an arm at bedtime.
Large
16–28 in
40–70 cm
Reads as a "big stuffed animal" on a bed without taking over the room.
Giant / XXL
30–55 in
75–140 cm
Gift-reveal territory. Measure your floor space first and expect a large shipping box.
Giant & XXL versions
Giant unicorns are second only to bears in the XXL gift market. Look for a stitched-on horn with an internal base rather than a horn attached only to the outer fabric.

Gift notes
- The reliable choice for a 3–8 year old birthday when you do not know their preferences.
- Giant versions photograph well for a party reveal, which is much of their appeal.
- Pastel colourways suit nursery decor better than rainbow ones, which read as toy-first.
Care & washing
- Hand wash if the horn or hooves are metallic — machine cycles strip the finish.
- Wash manes separately in a mesh bag if they are removable; brush wet, not dry.
- Air dry only, then finger-comb the mane in sections.
Unicorn plush questions
Do unicorn plush lose their glitter?
Glued glitter does, quickly. Woven metallic fabric holds up far better, so check whether the horn is fabric-wrapped rather than coated.
What size giant unicorn is realistic for a bedroom?
Around 30 inches is the practical ceiling for a normal child's bedroom. Larger ones look great in photos and then live permanently in a corner.
Are unicorn plush machine washable?
Plain fabric ones usually are. Anything with metallic, glitter or sewn-on sequins should be spot cleaned or hand washed.
